Questions & Answer

Is glass hygienic? Are glazing colors harmful to health?

Glass completely prevents the development of germs and bacterial. This is the reason why it used extensively in microbiology and this is the reason why porcelain is “glazed”.

How heavy is glass?

The specific weight of glass depends on its composition. Generally speaking however, its is similar to that of porcelain (both material are composed primarily from silica).

Can one use the dishwasher?

Both family as well as professional (90’C/194’F) dishwashing machine can be used. Special attention however should be taken with plates that have metallic color application and fused glass.

Durability, why does glass break?

The durability of glass depends on two fundamental factors: it composition and its way of manufacturing. Concerning its composition, the unoglass plate is base on Soda-Lime Glass (A typical soda-lime glass is composed of silica, soda and lime, also known as FloatGlass ) which is much harder variety than that crystal. Concerning its way of manufacturing, there are two important reasons which account for the durability of glass 1.)Permanent Stress  2.)Thermal Shock

Permanent Stress

Develops because of bad manufacturing quality. Glass after the melting process in which the molecules acquire a liquid form, must arrive at a solid state through a gradual decrease of temperature. This gradual decrease temperature (Annealing) is the “cast” of the glass. If this stage is not completed correctly, glass will be fragile.

Thermal Shock.

It usually occurs due to misused. Aroma burner; during firing do not place water into the tray, it may cause the tray crack. Glass in general, a bad conductor of temperature . this mean that the temperature travels within the glass (Its thickness) with slow speed. When glass is abruptly heated, its surface temperature will be different to the one, inside the glass.

Can one use in microwave oven?

One can use the glass in a microwave oven and keep it at 800W for 10 minutes. Plate with metallic colors and fused glass are an exception to this rule

Can I preheat a unoglass plate?

Our glass plates can be heated without the food and under the thermal shock temperature range (120’C) for more than 8 hours preferably, they should be heated in a heating chamber with hot air and not in an oven. Nevertheless, as proved in practice, ovens are ok preheating. Special care should be taken howsoever, so that the glass is not too close to the heat source.

It is better not to use glass plates in grill or salamander. Direct contact with fire will break the glass.
